Restore black trim around car Windows?
I drive a Toyota Corolla. In the process of restoring its rusty trough of the same name TOYOTA COROLLA, got to the stage of installing seals. For 15 years, they have seen a lot, but before the re-installation did not live all.
– The rubber bands of the windshield and rear window are completely destroyed in the process of disassembly.
— Front side Windows I have without gum at all, and seals rear side , plastic Windows repair, surprisingly very even living.
Seals door openings, in general, is not bad and retains elasticity, but at the corners and at the ends cracked. Attempts to find and buy new ones were not successful, it seems that in nature such no longer exist…even in Japan was not found. Decided to restore. And now, after a series of experiments, I am ready to share a positive experience.
Restoration of the cracked parts ( in my case corners) of seals of doorways.
For starters, using the recommendations of people from various forums, soak rubber in a solution of ammonia. Major changes are not noticed…more recommended alternative: for a couple of hours to soak in kerosene or gasoline, but did not try. After drying, cleaned the frail places with sandpaper and degreased with alcohol, and then in three calls filled the cracks with neoprene glue of dark gray color.n the corners of the seal slightly sagged, so to speak compressed, and does not work normally on the spin. The treatment is simple-a piece of soft rubber tube (with a door seal) is inserted inside.
The next day, after the glue froze, again walked with fine sandpaper (very carefully).
Then glue was looking for a very long time…tested a lot of different sealants and adhesives-all not until a familiar military naval officer did not suggest a really cool tool, namely-the aforementioned glue, which he used to repair diving suits. The glue is really good…after drying, it remains elastic and holds adequately. Not easy to find, had to work hard. There is an analog from the manufacturer, but the glue is transparent. Mine is dark gray, which was important for the appearance of the product. Custom rubber rear windshield. The native died, but had a profile similar to the classics, with the same wedge “under chrome”. Long without thinking, took on the car market seal frontal 2101 and he almost perfectly lay down in the open. Not a problem — super glue 505 on the basis of cyanoacrylates should be well glued to the rubber. Cut out pieces of 10 cm from the same profile of the pre-purchased the same seal and paste…
The place of gluing at first does not look very good, but the seal is wide and under the wedge, so that in the end it bursts and everything becomes perfect. The window opening missed Movil, and in any case a little non-drying sealant on the outside. Inserting a VAZ wedge is not an easy task without a special tool. Better to do it together — one extends the slot with a screwdriver or (as an option), the second puts. Fingers have both slightly erased by the end of operations, fresh paint better protect adhesive tape, account for putting not small effort and tool seeks on will. The glass was tight. A water test showed that there was no hint of a leak. Well, for maximum effect-be sure to need a sticker.
Plastic windshield repair.
On a windshield at me, the seal of a back window approached. The size is excellent, but the radii of the upper corners are not as you need. In this case, repeat the procedure described in paragraph 2 almost completely, only instead of gluing inserts had to replace the upper corners of the other, more suitable radius. With the installation of the windshield, it turned out not so smoothly, because it has a greater bend and becomes stubbornly unwilling. I had to invite a professional installer with some huge syringe of secret black glue and suction cups. Put with third times, decided mentor seal. Water does not pass.I.e. using three gaskets with the classics, very similar to the original. Hope, whom the use to anyone…By the way, the back door came the nose seal from a Mazda station wagon…even cutting is not necessary.
